Barks for Beers: Dogs, Craft Beer, and a Good Cause

Ever notice the overlap of craft beer and dog lovers? Well so did Divine Canines. This year their fundraising event, Barks for Beers, is partnering with 25 of Austin’s finest craft breweries for a fun, month-long, community event for you and your pup!

Barks for Beers 2018 is back and features 25 Austin breweries, many of them are new additions to the scene. The first year there were only 8 breweries participating and now in it’s fifth year, there are 25.

Here’s how Barks for Beers works:

Purchase a special Divine Canines pint glass and accompanying Pawsport, then for the entire month of May (actually starting April 27) take your Pawsport to the breweries listed above to get free pour at each! While the beer is free, the taproom staff is still working hard to serve you. That means don’t you dare forget to leave a tip!

This year the glasses are $30. Yes, the price has increased a bit, but remember that proceeds from sales of the glasses go directly to Divine Canines. This money allow them to train more dog-and-handler teams to continue free therapy dog services at more than 115 sites around Austin and Central Texas.

Your support means more therapy dogs can inspire, comfort, and revitalize people in the Austin community!

And still that’s just $1.20 for a local, craft beer. My favorite part about Barks for Beers, besides the increased presence of dogs at breweries and helping out an incredible charity, is the fun adventure of deciding how to conquer the list. Plus, it gets you out and about to all the breweries in the area!!

Or save this handy dandy Google Map I made up for this year’s participating breweries. They’re quite spread out, so best to get to planning!

You can purchase glasses for $30, proceeds from the sale of the glasses go directly to Divine Canines,  plus tax at the participating breweries and these retailers:

Copeland Jewelers
Mud Puppies (both locations)
Woof Gang Bakery (all locations)

Be sure to check out the Barks for Beers Instagram account for photos, prizes and more. Make sure to tag your photos with #barksforbeers as you check out each Austin brewery!

When you buy one of the pint glasses, you are helping Divine Canine recruit volunteers. You can make sure that the volunteers come from all walks of life and help keep their training costs as low as possible for all our dog-and-handler teams.

Wondering who’s that handsome, furry star of my photoshoot at Zilker Park? Well that’s our crazy Border Collie mix, Landon! Maybe you recognized him from my guide to the 29 Best Dog-Friendly Bars and Restaurants in Austin.

If you can’t get enough of him, he’s on Instagram @TheAustinCollie! Go give a follow, you’ll make him so happy!
