If you want a comfortable Caribbean vacation, at a fair price, just a bit off the beaten path but not too far, where the seafood is fresh and beer is cold travel to San Pedro and Ambergris Caye!
San Pedro is a town on the southern part of the island of Ambergris Caye off the coast of Belize in Central America. The tiny sleepy fishing town has a population of about 16,444.
We only stayed in San Pedro for a night before heading to Caye Caulker but it’s definitely the Belize caye with the most modern conveniences. It’s a great island to stay if you want white beaches and beautiful waters with plenty of great diving and excellent snorkeling spots.

Penthouse Caribbean Views in San Pedro, Belize
My boyfriend and I decided to start our vacation traveling through Belize on a high note. We began in San Pedro, Belize with one night in a luxury penthouse suite. The building was undergoing construction on the floors below us so it was priced as a bargain at $200 a night. There was no elevator and no poolside bar, and we were 1 of 2 other suites, but that’s not bad at all right?!
Normally, I wouldn’t ever splurge on a place like this when traveling but I couldn’t help to once I saw the Airbnb listing. Plus, you need to treat yourself, especially when you’re on a Caribbean vacation.
TIP: You can certainly find cheaper places in San Pedro, but if you’re on a budget, base yourself in Caye Caulker. The two cayes and all the Belize attractions like snorkeling and diving are in the same area.
Seeing the Caribbean Sea and all its shades of blue was magical with the view from the fourth floor. So seeing that made the price worth it. Plus, the bed was SO COMFY. we even left the bedroom doors open so the drapes blew in with the ocean air.
It was, in every sense of the word, luxurious, especially for two money-conscious travelers.
I just wish we had planned this at the end of our trip. It would have been a nice treat after all the hostels lol. But the rest of our trip we did a great job at budgeting and still found cheap (awesome) accommodations!
Drinking and Restaurants in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye Belize
There are endless bars, restaurants, cafes, and nightclubs in San Pedro. All you’ll need to do is stroll up and down the beach, or a block or two back, and you’ll find something that suits you. Don’t worry, San Pedro is safe, even at night!
Drinks and meals were relatively cheap here, but not the cheapest we had in Belize. Still, we’d never spend more than $30 or $35 on a meal for two, with alcohol. Beers are cheap, a few US dollars. Most places have a decent WiFi connection if you need to get work done but still want a view of the ocean.
