Austin Dog-Friendly Guide [Updated for 2020]

This is by no means a complete list of all the dog-friendly places in Austin, Texas. I think that might be impossible…

Realtor.com recently ranked the Top 10 American Cities for Dogs and Austin came in 6th. In the ranking, Realtor counted 264 dog-friendly restaurants in Austin. Can you believe it??

So yea, I guess an easier guide to write would have been, “The Few Places in Austin You Can’t Take Your Dog”.

This city is so incredibly dog-friendly though. It was one of the big reasons why we wanted to move to Austin.

We moved here with one dog, Jason’s Border Collie mix, Landon. Now, with the addition of my Mini Schnauzer mix, Louie, Jason and I have two.

Since the addition of a new puppy, we’ve revisited some of our favorite dog-friendly places and of course, exploring plenty of new dog-friendly breweries and bars.

That’s why this year, I’m taking the list of my dog-friendly places from 35 to 54!!

Dog-Friendly Places in Austin, Texas

With so many dog-friendly places, what makes a place an extraordinary example of the term?

At least, enough to stand out among 264 other restaurants (not including bars, shops, parks, offices, etc.)?

A few things for starters: space, shade, and a welcoming staff… Treats are always an awesome bonus.

Obviously, the competition is stiff for ‘the best’ dog-friendly places in Austin. This guide of 54 dog-friendly Austin places is here to help.

Each and every one of these places has been approved by myself and our two pups.

Alright, y’all. Time to buckle up and get into all of our favorite dog-friendly bars and restaurants in Austin!

Hi, great guide. I wanted to mention The Gibson Bar and Luke’s Inside Out as a popular dog friendly destination. Thanks

  • Michelle Cheng February 28, 2017 at 10:58 am

Loving these pics of your sweet pup! I especially love the one of him/her running behind you. <3 And that one with the mural is reminiscent of a dog/street art series I did on my non-food IG (@optimista).

We are so lucky to have so many dog-friendly restaurants here!

  • Jessica February 28, 2017 at 4:20 pm

OMG THIS POST IS EVERYTHING!!! Thanks so much for this roundup. I was only really aware of Yard Bar, and food trucks obviously since those are outdoors, but definitely need to make a trip out to these cool places. <3

Ya missed Black Star Co-Op! 😄

  • Mike Fritsch May 8, 2017 at 5:41 pm

El mercado o s 1st, they were wonderful to my scardey little pup when I first got her.

  • Joleen Jernigan January 12, 2019 at 8:42 am

Lustre Pearl East is my fave dog-friendly spot that you missed! The patio is giant, and the vibe is chill, much like The ABGB (that I love), but with booze. I don’t like to take my dog or see dogs at places that are completely packed and blaring loud music, so LPE hits it just right. They also host a LOT of dog rescue fundraisers and dog parties.

Her other favorite is Still Austin Whiskey. That place is perfect for dogs, and they love dogs there! And you can pop over to St. Elmo afterward. I also love Draught House, as you mentioned, and Black Star Co-op, noted in th comments.

    • Caitlin J January 14, 2019 at 12:04 pm

Yes! These are all awesome places, especially St Elmo when the weather is nice 🙂

  • Mason July 14, 2019 at 7:44 pm

Add Yard House at The Domain. They have a great dog friendly patio.

  • Mason July 14, 2019 at 8:14 pm

Also, Lucy’s Fried Chicken has a pooch friendly patio.
