This week, the brewers at Austin Beerworks were patiently waiting the arrival of a very special ingredient: fresh Centennial hops. The hops were harvested Wednesday morning in Oregon and immediately thrown into the jet-set life. Arriving by plane late Wednesday evening, the Centennial hops from Crosby Hop Farm in Willamette Valley Oregon are a crucial ingredient to Austin Beerwork’s Heavy Machinery Wet Hop IPA.
The historic Pabst Brewery campus closed without notice in 1996 while under a different ownership group. The abrupt closure left hundreds of Milwaukeeans unemployed and the buildings sat empty until September 11, 2001. That was the day Jim Haertel heard the news that his offer to purchase the Pabst Brewery was accepted.
The Beer Bloggers Conference has been happening every August since 2010 and just like the craft beer world, there are more and more bloggers every year. This year about 100 bloggers were in attendance for a long weekend full of beer, networking, and exploring.
